Old dog with cataracts and tumours found wandering alone in street

Appeal: Poppy was found wandering in Doune Street on Sunday. ———- Scottish SPCA

An elderly dog suffering from cataracts and with a number of tumours on her body was found wandering alone in Doune.

A resident of Leny Road discovered the female Chinese crested powder puff-type dog on Sunday, April 6, and alerted the Scottish SPCA.

The dog, estimated to be at least 12 years old, is now in the care of the charity’s Angus, Fife and Tayside animal rescue and rehoming centre at Petterden, where she has been named Poppy.

Chief inspector Brian Cowing said: “At this stage we don’t know whether Poppy has escaped from home or been abandoned.

“However, we do know she has not been reported as missing to Stirling Council’s dog warden service.

“Poppy has a number of growths as well as cataracts so we are very keen to trace her owner and establish whether she is currently on medication.

“Unfortunately, Poppy has no microchip or other identification so we are appealing to anyone who recognises her to contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
