Downey, CA: The saddest video in the world was published on Facebook the other day. A 12 year old senior Shiba Inu mix was relinquished at the very high kill Downey Shelter in Calfornia.
MacKenzie was just moments away from being euthanized, an all too common practice at Downey. Volunteer Sal Valdepena begged the shelter to give the elder dog extra time in order to seek rescue opportunity. Downey Shelter give Valdepena until Wednesday, November 18 to create a miracle.
Amazingly, along with the sad video, Valdepena made the announcement that MacKenzie had been rescued, “With such joy I am happy to announce our sweet Mackenzie has been rescued by my friends at Frosted faces Foundation.”
Valdepena posted “Blind 12 year old female Shiba Inu needs pledges and rescue! She weighs 20.5 lbs has alopecia on ear, cloudy eyes, and difficulty walking” on his Facebook page with very little hope. So many of the Downey dogs and cats are put down at the overcrowded shelter.
Even more astounding was the outpouring of effort for this poor little one. 459 people shared this story which proves that sharing and networking saves lives.
Frosted Faces Foundation from San Diego stepped up for MacKenzie and has furnished freedom shots that show the little one walking out of the shelter and riding home to a warm bed.
This Thanksgiving will be a happy one for MacKenzie and for those who took a second and shared her story.
